Oh and we know the tafBlog has been very quiet of late, but if you fill out the app you may notice some new things developing that we’ve been busy on. We aren’t finished just yet, but soon…soon you will witness the shiny new beacon of Epically Epicâ„¢ light that is the Taiwanese American Foundation’s official home on the interwebs!
Camper registration opening soon as well! Stay tuned…
Oh hey, if you’re in the Chicago area around this time, hit up the TAF New Year party!
Aside, just wanted to share a holiday story:
As her Christmas gift to me, one of my roommates, Anna, (who is Jewish, and not Taiwanese, btw) made a donation to TAF on my behalf. And then, she created this cute little announcement on cardstock paper and presented it to me:
Some cool things about this gift are:
-I wasn’t expecting a gift in mid-December. It kinda came out of nowhere and was a pleasant surprise!
-I have never solicited a donation to TAF (from my roommates)! She simply wanted to give towards a cause that I appreciate and value. She asked my other roommate, Debbie, for suggestions on making a donation to a Taiwanese organization. Debbie suggested making a donation to TAF, since she knew that TAFers are a huge part of my life – many TAFers have stayed on our couch in Philly, she often sees me traveling here and there to see TAFers, and she’s met a few on her own travels to the Bay Area, as well as online for Australia travel tips. Thanks, Howard! And good call, Debbie!
-Anna is a unique and compassionate individual. Her gift represents who she is! This investment will go towards TAF’s mission of growing servant leaders working to impact mankind in unique and compassionate ways.
-The gift does not take up a lot of space in my room/teeny tiny closet.
Thanks to Angela Yee, who has illustrated these awesome cartoon drawings of this year’s superheroes and super-villain seen in our 2011 THE ONES “Trailer”.
Hmm…could a TAF animated cartoon be in our future?
Visit http://www.youtube.com/tafmediachannel and scroll down the right-hand sidebar to view them all
And let us know if anyone has the “Such Great Heights” act with Angela, Andrew, Kevin, and Andrew, because our camera battery had to be changed in the midst of their song and we weren’t able to record it
Enjoy folks! TAF 2011 Photo Gallery is our next project — that should be coming soon…
Since all of Youth was backstage preparing for their choir song, many of them weren’t able to watch what was many in tafLabs’ favorite performance of the evening, Will Leu’s Slam Poetry. So while all other TAF Night performances are edited and ready to upload (awesome!), we’re going to dedicate all of Friday to Will’s lyrical prose so you can watch it unencumbered in case you missed it.
Yay it’s Friday, Friday, and tomorrow we will upload more TAF Night, TAF Night…all uploaded on the weekennnndddddd Check back tomorrow and Sunday for swing choirs and songs and more!
So it’s been a long time coming. Sorry for the delay! We had some issues with some YouTube copyrights that we were sorting through. But we are extremely excited to finally bring this to you in full color – the way it was meant to be seen!
It was an amazing week, as always. We at tafLabs are always striving every year to find ways to make the slideshow new and fresh for you guys and this year we were fortunate to have a lot of new equipment and toys to play with to find new ways and angles to show off TAF in ways we haven’t looked at before. This year, we put a little bit more emphasis on showing more of the behind the scenes work that the sTAFf, speakers, board, and even the campers, do before and during TAF. We really hope that this year’s inclusion of more video helps to provide more context around some of the amazing photos taken by everyone, and tell the story of the week.
Special thanks to board members Dave, Bob, Alex, and Spencer for taking the time to go through Anna’s photo workshop to help us cover the various events. Additional thanks to the hardworking members of the labs photo and video logging team of Anna Wu, Tom Yu, Eric Wang, Harmony Chiu, Steve Wang, and Andy Chen, without whom this slideshow definitely would not have gotten done on time. Thanks to Chikuan, Joy, and Jason for keeping us well stocked and fed with an amazing array of food and treats. And while it is somewhat self-serving, thanks to Seaglass Cinema for the use of their equipment and skillsets. Go check them out on their facebook page and “like” them! *end shameless plug*
Without further delay, we present to you – TAF Slideshow 2011. Thanks for reading and stop by often!
TAF 2011::THE ONES finished strong with an exciting evening of song, dance, and even some spoken word. It was a hot night on stage in Cordier as the Juniors, JH, and Youth Programs brought it in full force. We in tafLabs, with our own media “performances”, are gonna keep it up and bring you some more goodies to keep you company as you deal with the taf blues. We’ll start off with something any of you campers might be able to download onto your iPods for the ride or flight home, .mp3s of Alison Yeh’s cover of “Secrets” by One Republic and Melody Chen’s cover of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”.
